Pro Football Hall of Fame modern-era nominees: Brandon Marshall, Antonio Gates join impressive list

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has unveiled its list of 173 modern-era nominees for the class of 2024, which includes nine players who are in the first year of eligibility. Those making the list for the first time include receivers Brandon Marshall and Jordy Nelson, tight end Antonio Gates, running back Jamaal Charles, offensive linemen T.J. Lang, Josh Sitton and Max Unger, and defensive linemen Haloti Ngata and Julius Peppers. 

Marshall enters the Hall of Fame conversation after 13 seasons in the NFL. Currently, he ranks 23rd on the all-time receiving yards list (12,351) and 16th all-time in receptions (970). As for Nelson, he is one of the all-time Packers receivers, ranking sixth in franchise history in receiving yards (7,848) and fourth in receptions (550). Meanwhile, Gates is among the greatest tight ends to ever play in the NFL. He currently ranks third all-time for receiving yards by a tight end with 11,841 (30th on the all-time list overall) and owns the record for receiving touchdowns with 116. Charles is the Chiefs’ all-time leading rusher with 7,260 yards throughout his career. 

On the defensive side, Peppers, a former No. 2 overall pick, played 17 seasons in the NFL and is Carolina’s all-time sack leader. He also ranks fourth on the official all-time sacks list (since 1982).
