The Seattle Seahawks celebrated the return of Jamal Adams on Monday night after he missed 20 games with a quadriceps tear.
The party didn’t last long. Adams left the field on the first possession of the game after taking an incidental knee to the helmet while tackling New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones at MetLife Stadium. He was quickly ruled out after being evaluated for a concussion.
The injury took place as Jones scrambled in an effort to pick up a first down. Adams dove for the tackle, and Jones’ knee made direct contact with Adams’ helmet.
Adams remained down on the turf for a few moments and was visibly shaken once he stood up. He had trouble standing before being helped to his feet by Seahawks trainers. He left for the sideline medical tent, where he was evaluated for a concussion. He was upset after leaving the tent, apparently angry about being ruled out for the game.
He then walked off the field to the locker room shortly before the Seahawks announced that he was ruled out.
Tough blow for Adams, Seahawks
When healthy, Adams is one of the game’s most imposing defensive players. A three-time All-Pro, he joined the Seahawks in 2020 via a high-profile trade from the New York Jets. He sustained a torn quadriceps tendon in Week 1 last season and hadn’t played since until his return to the field Monday night.
He told reporters last week that he’d contemplated retiring after his quad injury that put him in “a dark place.”
“It was tough,” Adams said, per ESPN. “I thought about retiring. I thought about a lot of things. Is this going to be it for me? I didn’t know. But I knew eventually, after I got that MRI, I told myself I’m going to be back. I didn’t know when or how, but I was going to figure it out.”
Adams indeed returned Monday and made his impact felt early with a big hit on receiver Parris Campbell to stop the Giants for a short…
