Bengals QB Joe Burrow injured for rest of season, should team worry about his injury history?

Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow will be out for the remainder of the NFL season after sustaining a wrist injury in a 34-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football. Yahoo Sports’ Jason Fitz discusses what’s next for the Bengals and Bengals fans. Should they be worried about future injuries for the highest paid quarterback in the league after missing significant time this summer as well as in his rookie season?

JASON FITZ: Only days after Deshaun Watson was lost for the Cleveland Browns for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury sending Browns fans into an absolute tailspin, Bengals fans can now join that misery for fans in the state of Ohio, as we get the news today that Joe burrow is out for the remainder of the season, needing surgery on his wrist injury from Thursday Night Football.

Now this is an abject disaster for the Bengals because the Bengals are in that window. The AFC feels like the wild west this year. There’s so much openness to it, anybody could win. Well, the Bengals playing so well after their slow start, hard not to think that they weren’t going to be in that conversation. This feels like a wasted year in the prime of Burrow. But also, it raises the question nobody really wants to ask about a great quarterback. This isn’t the first injury, this isn’t the second injury, this isn’t the third injury for Joe burrow.

Now, I understand that they’re freak injuries and are unrelated, but no matter what, when we see that for some quarterbacks, we immediately label them as injury-riddled, as injury-prone, or as injury-concern. Is it time to start asking that same question for Joe Burrow? And more importantly, for the Bengals moving forward, should they not start to look at the backup quarterback position as a key for them every single season?

If there’s one thing we can count on, Burrow is going to have his health ups and downs. And if that’s going to be real, then the Bengals need to plan for it…
