The 2022 NFL season was not a good one for Russell Wilson.
The Denver Broncos had given up a king’s ransom in acquiring Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks, and many thought he was the quarterback needed to lead Denver back to the playoffs they had missed out on the previous six seasons.
However, Russ floundered, throwing for 3,524 yards and a career-low 16 touchdowns. Not surprisingly, Denver finished last in scoring, failed to make the playoffs and tied a franchise record for losses with 12.
After starting this season 0-3 — including a 50-point loss to the Miami Dolphins — pundits openly wondered if Wilson’s time as an elite thrower was over and done with.
But it appears that Wilson never got that memo, as the Broncos have gone 6-2 since that putrid start, including five straight wins. The signal caller has reverted to form, throwing for 20 touchdowns against just one interception this season. He has completed 71.6% of his passes for 894 yards, with eight touchdowns and no interceptions during his team’s winning streak for a 109.5 passer rating.
Bettors have also noticed, as Wilson’s Comeback Player of the Year odds have shifted drastically. Russ now finds himself tied for the fourth-shortest odds in the league to win the award at +1000 after the Broncos dismantled the Cleveland Browns 29-12 in Week 12. Wilson was +2500 before the game.
