ESPN has a new No. 1 in college football power rankings after Championship Week

After being basically a runner-up or worse for the entire 2023 college football season, something had to give for the Michigan Wolverines.

The maize and blue at No. 3 beat No. 2 Ohio State and still only moved up one spot in the College Football Playoff rankings and stayed at No. 2 in the ESPN power rankings. But then Saturday happened.

While Michigan didn’t look sharp against an Iowa team that loves to sludge up games, it still won handily, 26-0, even beating the spread. But No. 1 Georgia lost to Alabama, Washington upset Oregon, Florida State prevailed over Louisville, and Texas beat Oklahoma State.

Now, we wait for the College Football Playoff selection show on Sunday, but ESPN has updated its power rankings. Did the Wolverines rise to No. 1 or did another team such as Washington usurp the maize and blue? See the full rankings below.
