Way back for Super Bowl I, played on Jan. 15, 1967, TV crews from CBS and NBC ascended upon the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. For the first and last time, two different networks broadcasted the Super Bowl. In fact, the inaugural Super Bowl is the only Super Bowl that had to redo the second half opening kickoff, as one of the networks had not yet returned from commercial break.
Fast-forward to the present for Super Bowl LVIII, and CBS had the big game for itself, as the network broadcast Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. This marked a record-22nd Super Bowl for CBS, with many of its previous Super Bowls going down as all-time classics.
Speaking of classics, this year’s Super Bowl has already gone down as an all-time great game.
The Kansas City Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, became the first team since the 2003-04 Patriots to repeat as champions. Mahomes won his third Super Bowl MVP while joining Tom Brady as the only starting quarterbacks to win a Super Bowl that was decided in overtime.
Now that Super Bowl LVIII is in the history books, here’s a ranking of the 22 previous Super Bowls aired by CBS. As you can see, CBS captured the action of the some of the best Super Bowls ever, games that helped make the Super Bowl the spectacle that it is today.
This was one of the greatest Super Bowls of all time, so it’s fitting that it takes the cake on this list. This was the longest Super Bowl ever and the seventh-longest game in NFL history. It took nearly five full quarters, but in the end, the Chiefs outlasted the 49ers to capture their third Super Bowl since the 2019 season.
Fittingly, the best player in this game was Patrick Mahomes, who became the fifth starting quarterback to win at least three Super Bowls. After a slow start, Mahomes led the Chiefs’ offense on five scoring drives after halftime that included the game-winning drive in overtime. Mahomes won the game…
