The 2024 NFL offseason continues to roll along, as 31 teams have now begun OTAs. This is the first time we will see rookies practice with veterans, and maybe the last time we will get to see players like Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence throw the pigskin around before they put pen to paper on what they hope will be lucrative, long-term extensions. That may also include Packers quarterback Jordan Love, who was present at the start of Green Bay’s OTA sessions. On top of waiting for possible extensions to come down, OTAs are a fascinating window to see some familiar faces in new uniforms after free agency, including new Ravens running back Derrick Henry.
Football is back, so let’s go around the league and break down some notable moments, updates and highlights from OTAs.
Monken assesses Derrick Henry’s usage in 2024
Arguably Baltimore’s biggest offseason addition was Derrick Henry and it appears the Ravens will continue to hand the veteran back a sizable workload. Henry has logged 300-plus carries in four of the last five seasons with Tennessee. Now that he’s with the Ravens, OC Todd Monken relayed that they’ll be open to giving him a large share of carries out of the backfield, but will also prioritize keeping him fresh.
“Well, if he carries it 300 times, we’re having a helluva year. I can tell you that,” Monken said Thursday, via Ravens Vault. “It means we’re running it a lot; it means we’re up in games. We want him to finish. We want him to be the closer. But first and foremost, we want him to make it through the season. It’s a long season — 17 games. We’ll see how that goes. He’s been so durable … but I still anticipate the same of using all of our backs.”
