Tre Poteat, son of former NFL player, commits to Tennessee football

Three-star cornerback Tre Poteat, the son of a Super Bowl champion, committed to Tennessee football on Tuesday.

His father, Hank Poteat, was a star at Pitt and a nine-year NFL veteran as a cornerback and return specialist. He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tampa Bay Bucs, New England Patriots, New York Jets and Cleveland Browns.

Hank Poteat was on the Patriots’ Super Bowl 39 championship team alongside All-Pro safety Rodney Harrison. His son, Christian Harrison, is a defensive back for the Vols.

Hank Poteat is Iowa State’s cornerbacks coach.

Tre Poteat is a 6-foot, 175-pounder from Verona, Wisconsin. He also took an official visit to Wisconsin, where his father coached in 2021-22.

He received scholarship offers from more than 20 schools.

Tre Poteat’s decision continues a surge in Vols recruiting. He is UT’s fourth commitment in the past six days in the 2025 class.

Poteat is ranked the No. 48 cornerback and No. 545 player overall in the 2025 class by 247Sports Composite.

He can sign on Dec. 4, when the early signing period begins.

Poteat is UT’s 15th commitment in the 2025 class.

He joins five-star quarterback George MacIntyre, four-star offensive lineman Douglas Utu, four-star defensive lineman Ethan Utley, four-star wide receiver Radarious Jackson, four-star tight end Jack Van Doreselaer, four-star offensive lineman Nic Moore, four-star edge rusher Jayden Loftin, three-star running back Justin Baker, three-star safety Sidney Walton, three-star offensive tackle Antoni Kade Ogumoro, three-star cornerback Dylan Lewis, three-star defensive lineman Charles House, three-star Joakim Dodson and three-star cornerback Tyler Redmond.
