Here’s who Jackson State football coach T.C. Taylor is bringing to SWAC Media Day

Jackson State football coach T.C. Taylor should be familiar with the media day routine now as he enters his second season.

SWAC Media Day is scheduled for July 16 at the Sheraton-Birmingham hotel in Birmingham, Alabama.

Jackson State, which went 7-4 last season, is looking to wrest the SWAC championship back from national Black college champion Florida A&M.

Joining Taylor at media day will be two-time All-SWAC offensive lineman Evan Henry and defensive back Esaias Guthrie.

Henry will be the unquestioned leader on the offensive line this season with the departure of All-SWAC first-team offensive lineman Deontae Graham.

Henry made the move from right guard in 2022 to center in 2023. The 6-foot-4, 325-pounder was named second-team All-SWAC last season for the second time in his career, helping the Tigers to a SWAC-leading average of 389.4 yards of total offense in 2023.

Guthrie, who is 6-1, 183 pounds, will return to a ballhawking defensive backfield that led the SWAC in interceptions with 17 last season. Jackson State was fourth in the conference in total defense, giving up 335.8 yards a game.

Jackson State will begin its 2024 season at the University of Louisiana-Monroe on Aug. 29 (6 p.m. CT, ESPN+).
