El Paso legend Ed Stansbury to join Andy Morgan for UTEP ESPN+ football broadcasts

One of El Paso’s greatest athletic legends is taking a microphone.

Ed Stansbury, a grad of Irvin and UCLA, where he was a football standout, will team up with KTSM evening anchor Andy Morgan for ESPN+ broadcasts of UTEP Sun Bowl games this fall. The pair will take over for the two Sun Bowl games on ESPN+: the home opener against Southern Utah on Sept. 7 and the Kennesaw State game on Nov. 9.

Stansbury and Morgan have worked together on Friday night high school football coverage for the past nine years.

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to get into,” said Stansbury, who was inducted into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015. “I feel what I’ve done the last nine years covering high school football, this would be a good challenge for me.

“With my background and my experience, it comes naturally to me. I’ve watched thousands of hours of film of games. Being able to communicate that to the audience, what’s happening, what’s going on over a play, feelings a player is having – I think I can give a unique player perspective when it comes to commentating a game.”

Stansbury was a star fullback at UCLA and started in the 2000 Sun Bowl. He still holds the El Paso city record in the discus at 206 feet.

He’ll be in the booth with an experienced play-by-play partner in Morgan.

“I couldn’t be more excited to get back into the booth at Sun Bowl Stadium to call UTEP football games,” Morgan said. “Calling Division I football has been my dream and what’s more, I get to do it with my good friend Ed Stansbury, who is an El Paso legend.

“Ed brings so much to the table as an analyst after playing this game at the highest level, which is something I’ve seen firsthand working together on Friday night for our high school football…
