South Carolina football, Shane Beamer land four-star receiver Lex Cyrus over Penn State

COLUMBIA — South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer’s Thursday afternoon just got a little more exciting, after four-star wide receiver Lex Cyrus chose the Gamecocks over Penn State.

Cyrus announced his decision by revealing he was wearing a South Carolina T-shirt at a pre-planned event at his high school. Cyrus, a 5-foot-10 receiver from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, is the ninth-best recruit in the state according to 247Sports but chose not to stay close to home for college ball.

He announced on X, formerly known as Twitter on July 8 that he his final two options were between Penn State and South Carolina, but chose the Gamecocks over other schools as well, including Auburn, Duke, and Indiana.

This news headlines the list of impressive pick ups from the class of 2025 for Beamer so far.

During his junior season, Cyrus had 67 catches for 1,115 yards and 13 touchdowns for Susquehanna Township High School. According to 247Sports, Cyrus is a multi-talented athlete, who has had success with track and field as well.

“Should be viewed as a potential weapon on Saturdays that can extend defenses with his linear juice,” the scouting report wrote. “Likely going to find most success in an offensive system that schemes up targets and hunts mismatches.”

Cyrus had his official visit in Columbia back in June, and decided to play for the Gamecocks just over a month later.
