Giants tackle Evan Neal starts training camp on PUP list

The Giants will start training camp with right tackle Evan Neal on the physically unable to perform list, the team announced Tuesday evening.

Neal, the seventh overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, missed 10 games a season ago with an ankle injury that required surgery in January. (Originally thought to be a sprain, it was later diagnosed as a small fracture.)

The 23-year-old, entering a potential make-or-break season in his career, participated in a few portions of the team’s OTAs in May but did not participate in any of June’s minicamp sessions.

Neal last played in the Giants’ Week 9 game on Nov. 5 at Las Vegas, the same game Daniel Jones sustained a torn ACL. The quarterback entered Big Blue’s training camp without an injury designation. New York will hold its first practice of camp on Wednesday.

A player on PUP can come off at any time during camp and practice immediately and they can participate in all non-practice activities during camp.

The Giants signed free agent Jermaine Eluemunor, who was the starting tackle for the Raiders the past few seasons as cover, but he was expected to play left guard. Josh Ezeudu, who was held to just six appearances last season due to a toe injury, is another option.

Free agent guard Greg Van Roten, a nine-year NFL veteran who spent two seasons with the Jets, visited the Giants on Monday. The 34-year-old made 17 stats for Las Vegas in 2023.

Also on the PUP list: Cornerback Aaron Robinson, a third-round pick in 2021 who missed the entirety of last season recovering from a torn ACL, and rookie tight end Theo Johnson, a 2024 fourth-round draft choice, who landed on the list last week with a hip flexor injury.

Veteran defensive back Jalen Mills (signed earlier this offseason) and defensive back Stantley Thomas-Oliver (a member of New York’s practice squad last year) was placed on the non-football injury list.
