Jets QB Aaron Rodgers knows it will ‘take a little time’ to feel fully comfortable following Achilles injury

Speaking to the assembled media at training camp for the first time since his absence from mandatory minicamp, Jets QB Aaron Rodgers discussed how he’s feeling, what he thinks of this 2024 group, and how that infamous trip to Egypt came to be.

The biggest question surrounding the 40-year-old is obviously his health, as the four-time MVP is coming off of a major Achilles injury that limited his debut season in New York to just four snaps.

While the veteran said that Wednesday’s practice was “a bit of a grind” due to the heat, he also said that feels “great,” knowing that it’s going to take some time for him to feel fully comfortable on his surgically repaired left leg.

“I think it’s gonna take a little time,” Rodgers said. “I feel great. We track all the numbers where I work out out west and have for a decade, and my movement stuff is tracking the exact same as last year. Actually, a little bit stronger with some of the squatting stuff that we did. I just need the reps. The last five percent of being 100 percent is just the mental part.

“Not having played for an entire season really, it’s going to take a nice training camp to feel like myself.”

Having a healthy Rodgers won’t be the only boost the Jets get this season, as Gang Green also went out and signed tackle Tyron Smith and wide receiver Mike Williams to strengthen an already potent offense.

Rodgers said on Wednesday that he believes this year’s Jets roster is better overall than the 2023 team, and that he knows this squad has what it takes to compete for a Super Bowl, it’s just going to take everyone buying in.

“I think it’s important that you have to bring the energy, the enthusiasm every day,” Rodgers said. “You have to set the standard by the way you show up every day. You have to be active in meetings, you have to be attentive, you’ve got to be tapped into the energy of the team. The goal is New Orleans. That’s got to be the focus, that’s got to be the…
