2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt has announced his commitment

.

You can’t win all the recruiting battles in today’s ever-changing college football landscape. NIL continues to play a significant part in consistent success, as 2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt committed to Oregon over Texas A&M, Ohio State, Florida, and USC on Saturday afternoon.

After delaying his commitment, originally slated for late last week,  the Cleveland, Ohio native took two final visits to College Station and Eugene before making his decision. For many of us who cover recruiting daily, the Aggies may have held a slight edge over the Ducks.

However, McNutt returned to Oregon just a day after his College Station visit, cementing his commitment before making it official just an hour ago. Where do Mike Elko and his staff go from here?

First of all, A&M’s 2025 recruiting class has already landed four talented defensive back prospects, but this will likely amp up Elko’s drive to win over 2025 5-star safety Jonah Williams, who will announce his commitment on August 24, is still slightly favored to land with the Aggies over Oregon and the Texas Longhorns.

Does McNutt’s commitment to the Ducks affect Williams’s decision? Possibly, but it’s hard to fault Elko for not beating out one of the hottest recruiting streaks in recent history. Oregon reportedly works with “unlimited” NIL resources from alumnus Phil Knight and the Nike Corporation.
