Auburn punter Oscar Chapman named to Ray Guy preseason watch list

Postseason award watchlists are beginning to drop, and one Auburn player has made the cut.

[autotag]Oscar Chapman[/autotag] has been named to the Ray Guy Award preseason watchlist, the award is given to the nation’s top punter at season’s end.

Chapman is up for consideration for this award after averaging 44.8 yards per punt last season, which was fifth-best in the SEC behind Florida’s Jeremy Crawshaw (48.9), Vanderbilt’s Matthew Hayball (47.6), Alabama’s James Burnip (47.5), and Arkansas’ Max Fletcher (46.9). His longest punt of the season traveled 71 yards, and 23 of his punts landed inside the 20-yard line.

Notable names joining Chapman on the Ray Guy Award watchlist include Florida State’s Alex Mastromanno, Georgia’s Brett Thorson, and Vanderbilt’s Jesse Mirco. According to Jeff Shearer of AuburnTigers.com, The complete list of candidates will be released Nov. 6. In mid-November, the Ray Guy Award committee will meet to select 10 semifinalists, who will be announced on Nov. 15.
