SEC reportedly expected to institute mandatory weekly injury reports

The SEC is reportedly set to make some major changes that would lead to more transparency in college football injury reporting.

According to 247Sports’ Alex Scarborough and John Talty, the league is “moving toward” adopting a system of mandatory injury reporting. It hasn’t been officially approved, but the details are close to being finalized, and it’s expected to go into effect this season.

LSU is already ahead of the curve in this regard as it instituted weekly reports last season. Coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] cited the need for transparency with growing concerns about gambling, an issue that is almost certainly playing a role in the SEC’s considerations.

Florida also adopted a similar practice last fall, as did the entire Big Ten.

While this is a major change in how injuries are reported in college — previously, there was nearly no transparency at all — it shouldn’t result in significant deviations in how the Tigers operate, assuming it ultimately goes into effect.
