There are multiple factors that go into teams being College Football Playoff worthy. One is experience, another is the schedule. Another big factor is how many top players are contributing to the team.
It’s not always that easy, of course. You need talent across the board, namely at quarterback. Coaches have to make good decisions. Players have to make plays. And lower-ranked players have to develop. Not to mention, those who are considered top players have to perform like one.
ESPN released its top 100 players entering the 2024 college football season on Thursday and several Big Ten teams managed to get at least one player listed. While Illinois, Maryland, MSU, Nebraska, Northwestern, Rutgers, UCLA, and Washington didn’t get a player listed, nine Big Ten schools did make the cut. We ranked them, not only by number of players, but with weighting the rankings of the players included to determine just how each compares to the others.
