Texas and in-state rival Texas A&M have reportedly scheduled a joint news conference Aug. 22 in Houston to announce a title sponsor for their rivalry, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The two schools issued a release announcing the news conference Thursday morning but did not comment on the reason for the conference.

According to the Chronicle’s Kirk Bohls, “sources have told the Houston Chronicle they expect to introduce a title sponsor for the renewal of the Lone Star Showdown football rivalry between the two schools.”

The Longhorns and Texas A&M have played each other 118 times in a series that began in 1894 but have not played each other since 2011 because Texas A&M left the Big 12 to join the SEC the following year. Texas, along with Oklahoma, left the Big 12 on July 1 to join the SEC. Texas and Texas A&M will face off Nov. 30 in College Station.

State Farm Insurance sponsored the Texas and Texas A&M rivalry in all sports from 2004-11, but that sponsorship ended when the Aggies joined the SEC.
