The Jets once again rested nearly all of their key contributors in Saturday’s preseason game in Carolina and were able to come out on top in a game where neither team was able to find the end zone until the Panthers scored a meaningless consolation touchdown on the final play of the game.
Austin Seibert’s four second-half field goals were enough to hold off a Panthers team that was held to 156 yards of total offense while also resting starters.
Neither team could get much going on offense in the first half, with Greg Zuerlein’s field goal just before halftime tied the game at 3-3. Rookie Andrew Peasley got the start at quarterback but was held to just 33 passing yards.
With Adrian Martinez at the helm in the second half, the Jets took the lead on Seibert’s field goal, which was set up by a long kickoff return by Brandon Codrington. However, the Panthers were able to tie the score after Martinez threw an interception which was returned into Jets territory.
The Jets entered the fourth quarter with a 9-6 lead after they regained the lead on another Seibert field goal from 52 yards late in the third and he added two more in the fourth quarter. Martinez wasn’t very successful at quarterback either, as he completed just 7 of 17 passes with an interception.

– The Jets struggled to move the ball in the first half, but Braelon Allen picked up some tough yards on the ground on their field-goal drive just before halftime. The drive also included the Jets’ only passing first down of the half, which came as rookie Malachi Corley made a clutch catch over the middle on fourth-and-1.
– New York had five penalties in the first half, including three on offense. Top draft pick Olu Fashanu, who played at right tackle after practicing there all week, had a hold to negate a first down run by Isaiah Davis, but otherwise seemed to hold up well.
