Athletes feel pride playing in the trenches at Dunmore.

The program has produced some of the most outstanding football linemen in Northeast Pennsylvania history. Tim Ruddy, a former Notre Dame great and Miami Dolphins center, and the 19 Hookey Reap Award winners who played for the Bucks are listed among the top linemen in Lackawanna County.

Last season, Anthony Anelli started all 15 games for the Bucks on their journey to a District 2 Class 2A championship and the PIAA Class 2A semifinals. He played on a line that dominated, alongside Nathan Reuther, who won the Hookey Reap award for the best offensive lineman in Lackawanna County.

He intends to carry on the tradition of excellence at Dunmore and, therefore, understands what is expected of him.

“We had so much fun last year, and I had a lot of fun with my teammates, but all great things come to an end,” Anelli said. “Our younger guys are ready to step in and prove themselves this year. I am sharing my experiences from last year and helping them in any way that I can.”

Dunmore lost to Lackawanna Trail in Week 5 last season. Lackawanna Trail controlled the line of scrimmage and limited the Bucks to 125 yards rushing on 27 carries.

The coaching staff adopted a Wing-T offense that relied heavily on trap blocking, and Anelli’s athleticism made him a valuable part of the philosophical overhaul.

He responded.

The following week, Dunmore overpowered Mid Valley with 397 yards rushing, and the team was off and running. The Bucks built momentum each week and scored more than 40 points seven times. In eight wins, the team averaged 320.1 yards rushing in the running game, propelling them to the PIAA Class 2A semifinals.
