2024 SCHSL Soccer Season – Upstate’s Top Defensive Player Vote

This is your chance to vote for the Upstate’s top defensive player for the 2024 high school football season. Nominees are listed alphabetically, with a maximum of one player per team. You can vote multiple times. Voting closes Thursday at 5 p.m., ahead of Friday’s Week Zero opener.

Jaquavious Dodd, Eastside: Dodd is a four-star defensive end who has committed to South Carolina. He had 13 sacks and 24 tackles for loss last season.

Jeremiah Favorite, Boiling Springs: Favorite is a defensive back who had offers from three Power Four teams before playing his first game as a junior.

Jaidyn Ferguson, Byrnes: Ferguson is a defensive lineman who had seven sacks, 12.5 tackles for loss and 11 quarterback sacks.

Tye Kelly, Belton-Honea Path: Kelly had 38 unassisted tackles, 76 total tackles and 12.0 for loss yards as Belton-Honea Path went 13-1.

Andrew Ruppe, Gaffney: Ruppe had 11 interceptions, second-most in the state, and had 24 solo sacks along with two forced 2s. Recorded tackles. fumble.

Jair Simmons, Greenville: Simmons is a defensive lineman who recorded 35 solo tackles, including 3.5 for loss, in Region 1-AAAA play.

Cam Smith, Spartanburg: Smith is a linebacker who recorded 122 tackles, including 23.5 tackles for lost yards, 10.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and two recovered fumbles last season.

Cam Strong, T.L. Hanna: Strong is the defensive back and leader for Hanna (10-2). He committed to N.C. State and had seven other offers from the Power Four.

Wyatt Ward, J.L. Mann: Ward was Upstate’s leading tackler in every category with 155, according to MaxPreps. The linebacker had four sacks and three picks.

Armoni Weaver, Westside: Weaver is a defensive back and wide receiver for Class AAA state champion Westside (14-1). He is committed to Appalachian State.
