CLEMSON — Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney has begun prep for No. 1 Georgia, including what blared from the speakers at Tigers practice Tuesday.
Clemson, No. 14 in the preseason AP and US LBM coaches poll, played the Bulldogs’ fight song, “Glory, Glory,” during the final portion of practice. It featured crowd noise in the background too and looped for nearly 20 minutes.
Tigers linebacker Barrett Carter, who is from Georgia, said the Bulldogs’ fight song was played during the special teams portion of practice.
“It’s gonna be good for us just to get the idea in our heads because that is something that they do over there, but it shouldn’t affect how we play,” Carter said.
The Tigers will face Georgia on Aug. 31 (noon ET, ESPN) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is expected to be majority Bulldog fans. Clemson is a two-score underdog.
“I know we’re going to hear it a lot so getting prepared for it,” backup quarterback Christopher Vizzina said.
This will be the first of five scheduled meetings between Clemson and Georgia during the next 10 years. The Bulldogs defeated the Tigers 10-3 in their most recent matchup in 2021 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Georgia has won two national championships since then.
Clemson aims to rebound after a down 2023 season, when it finished with a 9-4 record and missed the College Football Playoff for the third straight season. Georgia aims to make it back to the CFP after missing last year when it lost to Alabama in the SEC championship game, its only loss of the season.
