Could it really happen? Is this actually going to happen? Will the huge USC-Penn State football game, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12 in Los Angeles, become a 9 a.m. local time kickoff on Fox Big Noon Saturday? We’re not going to say it’s likely, but it is certainly possible at the moment. Why is this the case? What could have happened to make this scenario a legitimate possibility? Television scheduling is going to be more complicated in college football with the arrival of four West Coast schools in the Big Ten Conference, and with Texas and Oklahoma moving to the SEC as part of a big wave of conference realignment, which also includes the Four Corners schools — Arizona State, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado going to the Big 12. The calculus for television start times and network assignments certainly won’t change on certain levels, but it will unavoidably be different if only because network rights for various conferences have changed.
We’ll dive into the details on USC-Penn State and its possible start time. We will explore some scenarios for one of the biggest games of USC’s 2024 Big Ten football season.
