Jets’ Sauce Gardner gives thoughts on Giants quarterback Daniel Jones after joint practice

Wednesday’s joint Jets-Giants practice at the Jets’ practice facility in Florham Park featured a few takeaways, including cornerback Sauce Gardner matching up against Big Blue rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers for the first time.

While the head-to-head was a bit underwhelming (Nabers did manage to catch a 15-yard pass with Gardner covering him), Gardner — perhaps inadvertently — made waves for what he said, or didn’t say, about quarterback Daniel Jones after practice.

Asked about his opinion and what he saw from the Giants QB1, the former Defensive Rookie of the Year paused for a moment before saying, “he’s a good quarterback.”

Gardner quickly mentioned how he thought he was going to pick Jones off on a play (he didn’t) before appearing to struggle to find words to describe the quarterback.

After a while, Gardner managed to land on, “It was very competitive, it was great. I had fun out there today. I don’t really know what to say.”

For what it’s worth, Jones finished the day 12-for-18 with a touchdown pass and a rushing touchdown as he returns from an ACL injury he suffered last season.

With the video of Gardner’s response seemingly gaining traction online, he clarified what happened on X, formerly Twitter, where he once again praised Jones.
