Pete Carroll returning to USC to teach as national championship-winning legend enters post-coaching career

Pete Carroll has retired from being a football coach, but he’s planning a return to USC in another capacity. The legendary former boss of the Trojans and Seattle Seahawks revealed to KRJ 93.3 FM in Seattle that plans are in the works for Carroll to teach a class at USC in the near future.

“I’m going to wind up teaching down there, and I’m looking forward to that,” Carroll said. “It’s going to be a really exciting endeavor when it all is finalized and all that.”

Carroll didn’t reveal what the subject matter of his class at USC but hinted that a formalization of the partnership will be coming.

“I’m really looking forward to that,” he said. “It’ll be all the way to the spring time before we start it.”

Carroll posted a 97-19 (62-14 Pac-12) record in nine seasons with the Trojans from 2001 to 2009, and the program has been chasing that standard of excellence ever since he left to become coach of the Seahawks in 2010. Though Carroll’s tenure left his successors with NCAA sanctions to grapple with, he’s remained a well-regarded figure at the school.

USC bestowed Carroll with an honorary degree and inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 2015. Even in retirement, Carroll hasn’t stepped away from football entirely. He’s still an advisor for the Seahawks following a 14-year run with the franchise, which included the Super Bowl XLVIII championship.

Additionally, Carroll was spotted at a Washington spring practice in April. His son, Brennan, is the offensive coordinator for the Huskies, which means Carroll’s loyalties are split. USC plays at Washington on Nov. 2 as both…
