Week 2 preview: Prince Avenue sophomore starting QB shows promise for state three-peat

Prince Avenue Christian is known for its quarterback room.

First there was Bock Vandagriff, the coach’s only son, who spent three years at Georgia, one redshirting and two as a backup to Stetson Bennett and Carson Beck, before transferring to Kentucky over the offseason.

Vandagriff ended his high school career as a five-star recruit after tallying 10,097 passing yards and 105 passing touchdowns.

After him there was Aaron Philo, who surpassed Trevor Lawrence and Gunner Stockton to set the state record for career passing yards (13,922). He also tied Macon County’s K’Hari Lane for most passing touchdowns in a single season (56), both as a senior while securing the Wolverines second consecutive state title.

Now at Georgia Tech, Philo has left a critical hole in PACS offense. It was assumed that Jake Bobo, son of Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo would be the one to fill that gap. The senior quarterback and outside linebacker was the backup last year after transferring from North Oconee.

He’d originally come to Prince Avenue Christian because he didn’t get much playing time as a Titan. In one season wearing the blue and gold, he completed eight of 14 passing attempts for 99 yards and a score.

Offensively, he also recorded 16 carries for 162 yards and a score and had a reception for four yards and a score. Defensively, he recorded 59 solo and 19 assisted tackles (78 total), a sack, an interception and four quarterback hurries. He also blocked two passes and caused two fumbles while recovering three more.

But Bobo didn’t end up getting the spot. So, who did?

Meet sophomore Ben Musser.

Musser transferred from Jefferson midway through his freshman season, according to a message from his dad. The class of 2027 signal caller participated in the Georgia Elite Classic, where he completed seven of 10 passing attempts for 176 yards…
