For one reason or another, the Iowa Hawkeyes running back room has been a bit snake-bitten by some injuries the last few seasons.
With the 2024 college football season rapidly approaching, things in that regard are trending in a positive direction. The Hawkeyes should have a full, healthy stable of backs ready to go versus Illinois State in their season opener.
During his press conference, Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz shed some light on the status of the Iowa backs and their health.
Ferentz told media that Leshon Williams, listed as the starting running back on the most recent depth chart, has bounced back nicely with a few good days in a row after being sidelined with an injury.

Kamari Moulton the only RB dinged up at this point, and Ferentz expects him to be ready by Monday of game week.

Ferentz also added that Kamari Moulton, a redshirt freshman from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is the only running back not healthy right now but believes that he will be ready to go next week in preparation for Illinois State.
Williams and Moulton, the first and third backs, sandwich Kaleb Johnson on the depth chart to round out the top three backs for Iowa. All three could expect to see carries this season along with explosive sophomore Jaziun Patterson.
The four-headed monster of Williams, Johnson, Moulton, and Patterson all had at least 27 carries last year and each found the end zone at least once.
The quartet combined for 372 carries for 1,652 yards and eight touchdowns.
