ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard predict Oregon Ducks will win the national title

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning, center, waits to take the field with his team for their game against Oregon State at Autzen Stadium Friday, Nov. 24, 2023.

The hype continues to build for No. 3 Oregon.

College football returned Saturday, as did ESPN’s “College GameDay” show, which made its season debut Saturday morning live from Dublin, Ireland, site of the Florida State-Georgia Tech game.

The show’s four regular panelists — Kirk Herbstreit, Nick Saban, Desmond Howard and Pat McAfee — each gave their predictions for who will fill out the first 12-team College Football Playoffs bracket and then who would come out on top.

Howard and Herbstreit each had Oregon beating No. 1 Georgia for the national title.

“I’ve got Oregon, the Ducks winning it all,” Howard said. “I’m going Dillon Gabriel, baby, let’s go!”

Saban also had Oregon playing in the national championship game against Georgia, with the Bulldogs winning. McAfee picked Georgia to win as well.

Oregon coach Dan Lanning was the defensive coordinator at Georgia before taking the Oregon job in 2022, right after helping lead the Bulldogs to a national championship.

The Ducks’ season begins Aug. 31 against Idaho at Autzen Stadium.
