The Hoban football team lost a season opener for the first time in seven years Friday in a 28-14 defeat to two-time reigning Maryland state champion Severn Spalding on Friday.

Maryland recruit Malik Washington went 23-of-27 for 239 yards and three touchdowns with Myles McAfee (seven catches, 14, 3 TDs) as his main target.

Antonio Ledbetter (23 carries, 114 yards) led the Cavaliers on the ground.

Ethan Roksandich went 4-of-9 for 59 yards and threw an interception in the loss. Taylin Boykin accounted for a 12-yard touchdown pass to account for one of Hoban’s touchdowns.

Roksandich scored from a yard out on the other score for the Division II state runners-up.

Brayton Feister led the Knights with 50 yards on 17 carries.
