Texas football recruiting bounces back by landing Nick Brooks, 4-star 2025 OT

After losing five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi to Oklahoma on Wednesday, Texas football recruiting bounced back by landing four-star tackle Nick Brooks on Friday.

The 6-foot-7, 345-pound tackle chose Texas over USC and Georgia and is the first true tackle in the Longhorns’ 2025 recruiting class. He’s the country’s 19th-ranked tackle prospect on 247Sports’ composite ratings.

Where Texas’ 2025 class ranks in the country

Texas has the 13th-ranked class nationally, according to 247Sports’ composite, but coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff have suffered some tough recruiting losses this summer. Five-star receiver Dakorien Moore pledged to Oregon, four-star defensive lineman Brandon Brown decommitted from the Longhorns and flipped to LSU and five-star linebacker Riley Pettijohn picked Ohio State. Four-star defensive back Kade Phillips of Missouri City flipped his commitment from Texas to LSU as well.

Which five-star recruits are Texas in play for?

Earlier this summer, Sarkisian said this about Texas’ perceived recruiting struggles:

“I’ve never been one to panic in recruiting,” he said at the Texas High School Coaches Association Convention. “I think history kind of shows we usually close pretty good as we get into the season, as we get into December.”

According to 247Sports, he’s got a point. Texas is on track to land five-star safety Jonah Williams on Saturday while five-star receiver Jaime Ffrench Jr. is announcing his commitment Aug. 30 and also is predicted to pick Texas.
