Trinity football wins state championship rematch and more Week 1 KHSAA scores, highlights

In a rematch of last year’s Class 6A championship game, the Trinity High School football team emerged victorious once again.

Sophomore quarterback Zane Johnson threw two touchdown passes and Zach Floyd and Jamaurion Berry both rushed for scores to lead the Shamrocks to a 28-10 victory at Bryan Station on Friday in the season opener for both teams.

Trinity beat Bryan Station, 41-20, in last year’s final to capture its 28th state championship.

“It was a typical first game,” Trinity coach Jay Cobb said after Friday’s victory. “There were enough mistakes to keep us busy for a month. It wasn’t very pretty. We missed a lot of opportunities. … The good news is the score on the scoreboard and the fact that we won.”

Johnson completed 11 of 21 passes for 174 yards and touchdown passes to Kaleb Warner and Nation Roe-McBroom. Berry carried 13 times for 137 yards.

Kaleb Washington carried 18 times for 125 yards and a touchdown to lead Bryan Station.

Trinity is ranked No. 1 in Class 6A in The Courier Journal’s preseason poll of coaches. Bryan Station is No. 6.
