Giants center John Michael Schmitz exits preseason finale with ankle injury

Giants center John Michael Schmitz exited Saturday night’s preseason finale against the Jets in the first quarter with an ankle injury.

Schmitz, playing to get some more game time after the second-year man missed time earlier this preseason due to a shoulder injury, appeared to sustain the injury on the final play of Big Blue’s opening offensive drive.

The center appeared to get rulled up on from behind when he was stonewalled and driven backwards on a 4th-and-1 run play from the Jets’ 12 yard line.

The play went for no gain to end the 11-play drive with a turnover on downs.

Schmitz was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

The Giants – nor the Jets for that matter – were not playing most of their starters, with Schmitz the only member of the starting offensive line to feature.
