The Runout: Previewing Indiana football’s Week 1 game against FIU

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football opens the 2024 season against FIU on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Will the new look Hoosiers bring the same winning mentality as their new coach Curt Cignetti? The long suffering fanbase is eager to find out. Cignetti overhauled two-thirds of the roster and hopes the 13 transfer he brought over with him for JMU will help usher in a new era of success in Bloomington.

Indiana faces a Florida International team in the season-opener that’s just as starved for wins as IU fans. Coach Mike MacIntyre enters his third season with a 8-16 record. The Panthers won just one game in the two seasons prior to MacIntyre’s arrival.

Indiana Football Players to Watch vs FIU

CJ West, DT: West’s size might not be his most impressive trait. The consensus on both sides of the ball is that West’s athleticism is pretty special for a defender tipping the skills at 300-plus pounds.

“CJ moves like a 325-pounder shouldn’t move,” Indiana center Mike Katic said. “His lateral movement is really good, his power is unbelievable.’
