Is Indiana football’s season-opener at Memorial Stadium against FIU sold out?

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football has issued 44,000 tickets for the team’s season-opener against FIU as of Thursday night, according to athletic director Scott Dolson.

IU’s Memorial Stadium seats 52,626 fans.

That’s a sharp increase from where that number was at comparable times in recent seasons. Dolson said the department had issued around 36,000 tickets during the week of the game in 2022 and 2023.

“We think there will be a pretty good walk up crowd, but I don’t know what to expect,” Dolson said, of the start of the Curt Cignetti era. “I think interest is going to build for this team.”

Indiana’s schedule is loaded up with eight home games includes ones against a Washington team that’s new to the Big Ten, the defending national champion Michigan and the annual rivalry matchup against Purdue.

During an appearance on “Inside Indiana Football”, Dolson told famed broadcaster Don Fischer that ticket sales were up 10% in most categories. He said they have sold 13,000 student season ticket packages up from around 11,500 a year ago.

Indiana’s average attendance in six homes games last season was 44,589 fans. The most well-attended game (50,050 fans) was the opener against Ohio State and it was the only game at Memorial Stadium to draw 50,000-plus fans.

The Hoosiers haven’t sold out a game since the 2021 game against Ohio State. It also sold out a non-conference game against Cincinnati that season. There were only three other sell outs at Memorial Stadium over the last decade: the games against Ohio State in 2015 and 2017 and the game against Michigan in 2017.
