The most important stats from Indiana football’s win over FIU

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti was impressed with his team’s “crisp start” in a 31-7 win over FIU on Saturday, but had mixed feelings about the rest of the game with most of his concerns centered around the offense’s disappointing second half.

“Just too many opportunities squandered,” Cignetti said.

He thought there were as many 10 missed plays by the offense that could have helped IU put the game earlier.

That doesn’t mean the Hoosiers didn’t put up some impressive numbers, here’s a look at some notable stats (good and bad) on both sides of the ball:

Indiana football’s key stats from 31-7 win over FIU

4: Indiana got home to the quarterback four times on Saturday with the team’s defensive front accounting for three of those sacks. The Hoosiers tied for 113th in the country with 20 sacks in 2023. It was only the fourth time since 2021 they had four or more sacks in a single game.

51: Elijah Green made the most of his relief appearance by scoring on a 51-yard touchdown run with 1:06 to go. It was the longest run from scrimmage for the program since the 2022 season. Indiana was the only team in the country in 2023 to not have a single carry of 30 yards or more. Green showed great burst with three runs of 10-yards or more on five carries. The Hoosiers had seven runs of 10-yards or more overall.

144: Indiana had 144 total yards in the first quarter (76 rushing) with nine first downs. The only time the Hoosiers exceeded those totals in 2023 was against Indiana State, an FCS opponent. After jumping out to a 14-0 lead over the Panthers…
