Palestine drops opener to Nacogdoches

Sep. 1—NACOGDOCHES — The opener for the Palestine Wildcats saw some positives for Palestine Athletic Director and Head Football Coach James Reyes.

Here is the Sideline Review for Week 1 of the Palestine football opener.

OFFENSIVE STANDOUTS

The Wildcats had 268 yards of total offense with touchdown runs from Dreylon Spurlock and sophomore quarterback Rohyn Price.

Price finished his first Palestine varsity starter 16-of-27 for 148 yards with two interceptions. He also had 12 carries for 17 yards and a four-yard TD run.

Spurlock finished with 11 carries for 102 yards and one TD, while Cannon Fussell had one carry for one yard.

Don Brooks led the way in receptions with three catches for 57 yards, BJ Walker had two catches for 28 yards, sophomore C.J. Jones had four catches for 24 yards, Khalil Davis had four receptions for 18 yards while Billy Harrod had two receptions for 15 yards. Jayden Oliver finished with one catch for six yards.

I saw some good things. I am not discouraged.”

DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS

The Wildcats defense held Nacogdoches to only 13 points after allowing 21 points in the first quarter.

Palestine Defensive Coordinator Chad Bruggman’s unit gave up two field goals and a TD run late in the fourth quarter.

“We could have laid down and quit,” Reyes said. “They scored 34 points but…
