Former Ohio State TE Cade Stover says he ‘knew enough’ about Connor Stalions’ sign-stealing operation

For some, the Netflix “Untold” documentary about Connor Stalions and the Michigan sign-stealing scandal was a surprising look at how teams will do anything to get an edge. However, none of it shocked former Ohio State tight end Cade Stover.

Now a rookie with the Houston Texans, Stover was asked if he watched the documentary. Stover said he didn’t have to watch it because he was on the wrong end of Stalions’ sign-stealing exploits on the field.

“No, I knew enough about that bullshit as it was,” Stover told Landry Locker.

Stover played five seasons for the Buckeyes, and he recalled a specific example of the Michigan defense identifying a play that Ohio State had never run before. Stover said he was lined up outside to run a tight end screen out of a brand new formation, and the Wolverines instantly called out the play.

“We tried to throw a tight end screen in a formation we’d never used before, like ever,” Stover said. “As soon as I lined up outside, we had one play where I was going to motion back in, and [C.J. Stroud] was going to throw a screen to me. When they start yelling ‘screen’ when you’re throwing a tight end screen, that’s when you know. It’s like, ‘What the f— is this? We’ve never run this before.'”

Stover ended his Ohio State career on a three-game losing streak to Michigan, but Stalions had already resigned ahead of the 2023 matchup.

The NCAA is still investigating Stalions’ role in using illegal advanced scouting methods on behalf of the Wolverines. The school just recently received its notice of allegations from the NCAA.
