Quinn Ewers gets hit late by Michigan defense, leads to scuffle between Texas and Wolverines

It took until there was an 18-point deficit on its home field, but late in the third quarter, Michigan’s football team finally showed some fight against Texas.

Just likely not in the way coach Sherrone Moore would have wanted to see.

With the No. 3 Longhorns threatening to add to their 24-6 lead over the No. 9 Wolverine on first-and-goal at the Michigan 3, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers took a knee on what appeared to be a busted play, resulting in a five-yard loss.

Well after Ewers’ knee touched the Michigan Stadium turf, Wolverines edge Cameron Brandt tackled Ewers. Offensive lineman Hayden Conner shoved Brandt, resulting in a dustup between the top-10 teams.

Ultimately, offsetting unsportsmanlike conduct penalties were called on Texas’ DJ Campbell and Michigan’s Kenneth Grant. Interestingly, Brandt, whose late hit started the skirmish, was not whistled for a personal foul.

Two plays later, Ewers found Jaydon Blue for a seven-yard touchdown that pushed the Longhorns’ lead to 31-6.
