It’s a clash of power conferences when Kansas heads to Illinois for an intriguing matchup on Saturday. Both the Jayhawks and the Illini are riding high after they combined to outscore their opponents 93-3 in Week 1.

Kansas kicked off its 2024 season against Lindenwood from the FCS ranks and dominated for all four quarters, notching a 48-3 win at home. The Jayhawks got the job done on the ground, totaling 331 rushing yards. Running back Devin Neal led the way with 112 yards and a score.

On the other side of the ball, Kansas held Lindenwood to just 202 total yards of offense.

Meanwhile, Illinois got its first win of the year against Eastern Illinois — another FCS program — in emphatic fashion, 45-0. A big part of the win was the Fighting Illini’s ability to finish drives: they scored a touchdown on all five of their trips to the red zone. Illinois quarterback Luke Altmeyer threw for four touchdowns in the season-opener while the Illini defense kept the Panthers under 200 yards of offense.

Illinois will try to get some revenge for what happened last season when it went to Kansas and took a 34-23 loss. The Jayhawks are hoping for a similar performance again this year to help them reach a bowl game for a third straight year.
