College football rankings: SEC teams in updated Coaches Poll, AP Top 25 after Week 2

Could college football see a new No. 1-ranked team in Week 3?

Georgia has done nothing to lose its No. 1 position in either the US LBM Coaches Poll or AP Top 25, crushing Tennessee Tech 48-3 on Saturday. But Texas’ dominant win over No. 9 Michigan on Saturday could have some voters rethinking their top 25.

The Longhorns, ranked No. 3 heading into Week 2, defeated the defending national champions 31-12 on the road on Saturday, as third-year starting quarterback and Heisman Trophy hopeful Quinn Ewers passed for 246 yards and three touchdowns. Texas would have to jump both Georgia and Ohio State for the top ranking.

No. 12 Tennessee also took care of business against No. 23 NC State, defeating the Wolfpack 51-10 behind first-year quarterback Nico Iamaleava’s 211 passing yards and two passing touchdowns.

Elsewhere, No. 4 Alabama scrapped to 42-16 win vs. South Florida that was not nearly as dominant as the score suggests. It wasn’t the only crimson team to struggle on Saturday, as No. 13 Oklahoma managed to hold off former Big 12 opponent Houston 16-12.

Here’s how those games and more affect SEC teams’ rankings in the polls heading into Week 3 of the college football season:
