Jordan Love injury update: Packers QB not yet ruled out for Week 2; Malik Willis to start if he can’t play

The Green Bay Packers officially have their new starting quarterback… if Jordan Love is not cleared to play. With Love’s status up in the air with an MCL injury, the team will turn to Malik Willis for their Week 2 game against the Indianapolis Colts if needed, head coach Matt LaFleur announced Monday.

Love will not be placed on injured reserve, per the head coach, as he recovers from the reported sprained MCL that is expected to sideline him 3 to 6 weeks. If Willis starts, Sean Clifford will be the backup. LaFleur said they don’t plan on bringing in another QB despite reports that they made a call to free agent Ryan Tannehill, who happens to be Willis’ former teammate.

Willis’ regular-season debut for the Green Bay Packers came earlier than just about anyone expected. The quarterback entered in the closing seconds of Friday night’s Week 1 showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles after Love went down.

Willis was unable to lead the Packers to victory on Friday night, as Green Bay was on the wrong side of a 34-29 final score, but he may get another chance next week.

While we continue to await more news on Love’s injury, here are five fast facts about Green Bay’s other quarterback.
