Charles Brantley returns interception 100 yards for epic TD for Michigan State

Charles Brantley may have just made the play of the day in college football.

Brantley, a Michigan State football senior cornerback, returned an interception officially 100 yards, though he was about four yards deep in his own end zone on the play at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing.

It’s the first time MSU has ever had a 100-yard pick-six, and only the 16th time it has happened in Big Ten football history. It’s also MSU’s first INT return for a TD since Brantley picked off Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud in 2022 and scored from 32 yards away.

Brantley on Saturday got great blocks from Armorion Smith and Nikai Martinez, and got twisted by two defenders as he reached for the goal line. But after a long review, the touchdown call stood, giving MSU a 27-0 lead on Prairie View A&M late in the second quarter (follow live updates). The extra point was missed.

Funny enough, Brantley had a 38-yard pick-6 earlier in the game called back on penalty due to a hit to the head of the quarterback from the arm of defensive back Angelo Grose, even though the ball had already been released. The second one was much more difficult.

The 100-yard INT TD for Brantley probably still ranks second on his list of big plays at MSU: You’ll recall his one-handed pick as a freshman in 2021 sealed MSU’s epic 37-33 comeback win over Michigan in a battle of unbeatens at Spartan Stadium.
