Michigan game injury report: ‘Alpha’ WR questionable, 4-star freshman out

The options at running back and on special teams just got a little bit deeper thinner for Michigan football in today’s game vs. Arkansas State.

Jordan Marshall, a standout true freshman who showed some flash in the return game last week against Texas, has popped up on the Big Ten pregame availability report provided by Michigan, and will be out for the game vs. the Red Wolves at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor (noon, Big Ten Network).

Junior starting receiver Tyler Morris is listed questionable. Morris, who coaches called “the alpha” in the room headed into the season, has struggled two weeks into the season. After catching three passes for 15 yards against Fresno State, he was limited to two grabs for 17 yards against the Longhorns.

Marshall, a four-star back from Cincinnati (Moeller), took three returns for 51 yards in his debut in the return game. Though he has been highly regarded in his early days by peers for his production in practice, it had been hard to work him into a crowded backfield with Donovan Edwards, Kalel Mullings and Ben Hall. Coaches want to find a way to get the ball in his hands.

“I don’t think we’re going in a different direction, I think we just wanted to get some other carries and kind of separate the load a little bit,” special teams coordinator J.B. Brown told media last week. “Definitely excited about Jordan, he did a great job against Texas but has to continue to do that as we work through the week.”
