Wisconsin quarterback Tyler Van Dyke went down with an apparent right knee injury during the first quarter against No. 4 Alabama on Saturday. He was removed from the field by a cart. Wisconsin announced at halftime it had ruled Van Dyke out for the remainder of the game.

Van Dyke was scrambling to the sideline on third down of the game’s first drive when his knee buckled while getting tackled. The Crimson Tide were called for a late hit on the sideline play, resulting in a first down for the Badgers. Van Dyke completed his first five passes for 16 yards before leaving the game.

The senior transferred to Wisconsin after four years at Miami. He started 28 games for the Hurricanes and completed 63.5% of his passes for 7,469 yards, 54 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. Wisconsin went 2-0 with Van Dyke as the starter with wins over Western Michigan and South Dakota.

With Van Dyke sidelined, Mississippi State transfer Braedyn Locke was thrust into the lineup. The sophomore from Rockwall made three starts for the Badgers last season. He completed 50% of his passes with five touchdowns and one interception. He played at Rockwall (Texas) High School with former Ohio State receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
