Coaches Poll top 25: Texas jumps Ohio State, Texas A&M reenters college football rankings

USATSI

The college football rankings aren’t going to see a ton of shake up after a week that featured very few losses for ranked teams, but the performances have given voters something more to think about when they fill out their ballots. When it comes to the coaches who participate in the Coaches Poll top 25, it’s clear Texas made one of the biggest impressions with their Week 3 win.

The Longhorns rolled UTSA in a 56-7 win on Saturday, but the story is less about the margin than what happened at the quarterback position. Starting quarterback Quinn Ewers was knocked out of the game in the first half with an abdominal strain and backup Arch Manning dominated in his stead. Manning totaled five touchdowns and provided a spark in the ground game for the Longhorns, who jumped Ohio State for No. 2 in the Coaches Poll top 25.

For the Buckeyes, who were off in Week 3, this move aligns with a similar change that occurred last week in the AP Top 25 poll.

Elsewhere, we see Tennessee move up two spots to No. 7 following a yet another blowout win (this time against Kent State) and Kansas State move up a spot to No. 14 after beating Arizona in one of the only games between ranked teams. Arizona was one just two teams to drop out of the coaches’ top 25, joined by Washington after the Huskies fell to rival Washington State.

That shake up near the cut line allowed for some new arrivals to the Coaches Poll after Week 3. UNLV jumped up nine spots to No. 25 after beating Kansas on Friday night and Texas A&M made a return to the top 25 at No. 24 after beating Florida in The Swamp. …
