Quinn Ewers injury update: Texas QB ‘week-to-week’ with abdominal strain, Arch Manning likely to start vs. ULM

USATSI

While Texas fans were able to spend Sunday celebrating the Longhorns reaching No. 1 in the AP top 25 poll for the first time since 2008, the team also got some good news on the injury front with starting quarterback Quinn Ewers. Ewers’ status is “week-to-week” after getting knocked out off Saturday’s win against UTSA with an abdominal strain, 247Sports confirms.

The report Indicates that Ewers is “likely” to miss Texas’ next game, a home date with ULM, but the injury itself is not “as serious as initially feared.”

Ewers’ expected absence against ULM likely means the first career start for Arch Manning, who dazzled with five touchdowns against UTSA when he was called into the game following Ewers’ injury. What becomes a bigger question moving forward is both how long Ewers’ abdominal injury lingers and what the plan is at quarterback when the Longhorns’ senior starter is cleared for full contact.

The good news for Steve Sarkisian and Texas is that the most difficult challenges on the schedule are still a couple weeks away. The Longhorns’ SEC opener is at home against Mississippi State on Sept. 28, then the team is off for a week before returning to action in the Red River Rivalry on Oct. 12. It there’s a point in the schedule to be dealing with an abdominal strain for your star quarterback, this seems to be the spot.
