What records did Tennessee football set against Kent State? Here’s the list

Tennessee football set a bevy of offensive records during its 71-0 win against Kent State on Saturday.

The Vols established program-best marks in points, yards and more against the Golden Flashes, while running back Dylan Sampson had a record-setting day.

Here are the records Tennessee set. All records are in the modern era, which began in 1937.

Tennessee scored 37 first-quarter points

Tennessee set a record for most points in a quarter by scoring 37 points in the first quarter. It is the record for most points in any quarter. The Vols had five touchdowns and a safety to set the record. Running back Dylan Sampson scored three rushing touchdowns in the first quarter.

The prior record was 35, which UT set in the first quarter against Arkansas on Nov. 11, 2000, at Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee scored 65 first-half points

Tennessee scored 65 first-half points to establish the record for most points in a half. UT had nine first-half touchdowns. Sampson had four.

UT’s previous record was 52 against UT Martin on Oct. 22, 2022, at Neyland Stadium. That also was in the first half.

Tennessee scored 71 points

The Vols tallied 71 points, which topped the previous record of 70. UT scored 70 against Louisiana-Monroe on Sept. 23, 2000. Tennessee had two second-half field goals, including a 21-yarder from Max Gilbert in the fourth quarter to set the record.

The record for points in a game under coach Josh Heupel was 69, which UT set in the season opener against Chattanooga. The Vols have scored more than 60 points six times in Heupel’s four seasons.

Tennessee had 740 total yards

UT had 740 total yards on offense to surpass the previous record.
