Jackson State football enters Week 4 after a win over rival Southern.
Jackson State (2-1) plays at SWAC opponent Grambling (2-1) at Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium on Saturday (6 p.m., ESPN +). But it isn’t counting as a conference game because Grambling rotated out of Jackson State’s list of SWAC opponents for 2024. Grambling comes off a 35-28 overtime win against FCS opponent Texas A&M University-Commerce.
“They have some great size on the defensive side of the football,” JSU coach T.C. Taylor said of Grambling. “This past weekend, we played the defensive preseason player of the year and this weekend we’ll have the offensive player of the year, Myles Crawley.”

Jackson State expects to play Cam’Ron McCoy, Jacobian Morgan at QB again
Jackson State quarterback Cam’Ron McCoy injured his right (throwing) wrist early in the first quarter and did not return against Southern. Taylor said this week McCoy’s wrist was good, but he needed stitches around his right eye.
Week 1 starter Jacobian Morgan came in for McCoy, as he did in Week 2, and helped lead JSU to 30 points against Southern. Taylor did not announce a starting quarterback for Grambling, but both are expected to play again.
McCoy leads the team in rushing with 130 yards and has 144 passing yards with four total touchdowns, and Morgan has 531 passing yards with five total touchdowns.
Irv Mulligan, JD Martin are back at running back for Jackson State
Running backs Irv Mulligan and J.D. Martin saw their first snaps of the 2024 season against Southern after both returned from leg injuries. The two will be Taylor’s one-two punch in the backfield. There’s also Travis Terrell Jr. and Ahmad Miller, who carried the load when Mulligan and Martin were sidelined.
