Updating Oregon’s rankings in college football polls after UCLA win

Oregon football put together its second dominant win in a row after completely stifling UCLA on the road in its Big Ten opener Saturday, 34-13, and moved up a few spots in the national polls as a result.

The Ducks (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) moved back up a spot to No. 6 in the US LBM Coaches Poll after Ole Miss’ 20-17 upset loss to Kentucky.

In the Associated Press media poll, Oregon moved up two spots to No. 6, jumping Ole Miss and Miami after being ranked No. 8 last week following a bye.

The Ducks spent three straight weeks at No. 6 in the Coaches Poll before a bye week moved them down a spot, but they return after Ole Miss dropped from No. 5 to No. 11.

Alabama, after defeating Georgia in a thriller Saturday night, made a leap from No. 4 to No. 2, nipping at No. 1 Texas’ heels after perhaps the best win of the early season. Coaches didn’t punish the Bulldogs too harshly for the road loss to Bama, dropping them from No. 2 to No. 5, just ahead of undefeated Oregon.

The top five in the coaches poll features No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Tennessee and No. 5 Georgia.

The Big Ten is prominently featured in the Coaches Poll, with No. 3 Ohio State, No. 6 Oregon, No. 7 Penn State, No. 10 Michigan, No. 15 USC, No. 24 Indiana and No. 25 Illinois.

The AP Poll features the same top five, but a new No. 1. Following Alabama’s big home win over Georgia, media voted the Crimson Tide No. 1, moving up three spots to take the top spot from Texas.

Big Ten teams ranked in the AP Poll include: No. 3 Ohio State, No. 6 Oregon, No. 7 Penn State, No. 10 Michigan, No. 11 USC, No. 23 Indiana and No. 24 Illinois.

The Ducks have a short week to…
