Florida State Football overreaction: This could be an all-time worst for the Seminoles

With five games under its belt, Florida State football has fallen into an abyss.

Each of FSU’s four losses has been unsettling to watch, the latest a 42-16 loss to SMU on Saturday.

“Obviously, very disappointed on our end,” FSU coach Mike Norvell, said Saturday.

“The things coming into the game, (we) had a lot of confidence and how I thought our guys would respond in the first half. We had opportunities, and we weren’t able to capitalize.”

FSU remains in the bottom tier offensively, averaging 278.2 total yards a game and 17.6 points a game. Norvell still has no answers to why his Seminoles cannot be in sync, and his time is running out this season.

Here is the overreaction.

After SMU’s loss, it seems more realistic than an overreaction.

The Seminoles are sitting at 1-4 and 1-3 in the ACC. As we get closer to a new month and halfway through the regular season, FSU will be put into the gauntlet, starting with 15th-ranked Clemson at home Saturday.

Then, following their bye week, FSU will play back-to-back road games against Duke on a Friday night and then eighth-ranked Miami at Hard Rock Stadium.

It is likely a winless month for the Seminoles. Then, with UNC, Notre Dame, Charleston Southern, and Florida on the back end, FSU could be staring at the face of a two-win, three-win season at best.

Not the kind of direction Norvell wants to head after going 13-1 last year.
